Quick Answer

Workplace injury response is a shared responsibility between the team member, supervisor, Medcor, treating medical provider (if applicable), claims adjuster (if applicable), and HR, with each role having defined responsibilities to ensure safety, compliance, and proper recovery.

Team Member Responsibilities

  • Stop work immediately and get to safety.

  • Report all work-related injuries as soon as possible and no later than the same day.

  • Participate in the Medcor nurse triage process when directed.

  • Follow all medical instructions and restrictions exactly.

  • Provide required documentation to supervisors and HR promptly.

  • Stay in communication with your supervisor, medical care team (claims adjuster and treating medical providers), and HR during recovery.

Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Ensure immediate safety and assess whether emergency response is required.

  • Contact 9-1-1 for life-threatening injuries.

  • Ensure Medcor is contacted for non-emergency work-related injuries.

  • Initiate required injury reporting, HR notification, investigation, and documentation.

  • Enforce medical restrictions exactly as documented.

  • Partner with HR throughout the injury, return-to-work, and recovery process.

Medcor Responsibilities

  • Provide nurse triage for non-life-threatening work-related injuries.

  • Assess symptoms and provide care guidance.

  • Determine whether medical treatment or referral is needed.

  • Document the injury and triage outcome.

  • Support consistent, timely medical response.

Medcor does not replace emergency services or treating medical providers.

Treating Medical Provider Responsibilities (If Applicable)

  • Evaluate the injury or condition.

  • Provide diagnosis, treatment, and medical guidance.

  • Issue written work status and medical restrictions, if applicable.

  • Modify or release restrictions only through written medical documentation.

Only the treating medical provider may issue or change medical restrictions.

Claims Adjuster Responsibilities (If Applicable)

  • Review and manage the workers’ compensation claim.

  • Determine claim compensability based on available information.

  • Coordinate approved medical care under the claim.

  • Communicate claim status, benefits, and next steps as appropriate.

The claims adjuster does not determine day-to-day work assignments or override medical restrictions.

HR Responsibilities

  • Coordinate workers’ compensation, leave, and return-to-work processes.

  • Review medical and return-to-work documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with employment, safety, and leave laws.

  • Guide supervisors and team members through required steps.

  • Maintain required records and documentation.

Why Clear Roles Matter

When everyone understands their role, injuries are handled more quickly, safely, and consistently. Clear accountability reduces confusion, prevents delays, and supports recovery and compliance.

Important Reminder

Knowingly or intentionally providing false or misleading injury information, including misrepresenting a non-work-related injury as work-related, may constitute insurance fraud and may result in corrective action or legal consequences in accordance with applicable law.
