Eligible dependents typically include:

  • Legal spouse

  • Biological children

  • Stepchildren

  • Adopted children

  • Children placed for adoption

  • Children attending college, up to the plan’s maximum age limit

  • Disabled children who are unable to support themselves due to a qualifying disability, regardless of age, when eligibility requirements are met

 

Age & Eligibility Guidelines

  • Most medical plans allow dependent children to remain covered through age 26, regardless of:

    • Student status

    • Marital status

    • Financial dependency

    • Residency

  • Disabled dependents may be eligible for continued coverage beyond the standard age limit, provided plan criteria and documentation requirements are met.

  • Dependent eligibility is determined by insurance plan rules and applicable law.

  • Supporting documentation may be required to verify dependent eligibility.
