Quick Answer
Form I-9 completion is a federal legal requirement and a critical compliance control. Operations leadership owns execution in the field. At LWG, both Section 1 and Section 2 must be fully completed on the first day of employment before the new hire begins any work duties.
Timeline
- LWG standard: Both sections must be complete, and E-Verify initiated, before the employee performs any work.
What the Employee Must Do
- Complete Section 1 accurately and on time
- Choose and provide their own valid, unexpired, original documents (managers may never request specific documents or accept copies)
- Present documents in person
What You (the Hiring Manager/Director) Must Do
- Confirm Section 1 is complete
- Meet the employee in person and review original documents
- Complete Section 2 and submit the I-9
- Monitor the scheduled daily Dayforce I-9 audit report and resolve any action items
Acceptable Documents
Must be on the Form I-9 List of Acceptable Documents, original, and unexpired. Managers must not request specific documents, treat employees differently based on citizenship, reject valid documents, or over-document.
Why It Matters
Non-compliance can result in federal fines, audits, business disruption, and employees being removed from the schedule immediately, and termination of employment.
