Leeds West Groups is committed to providing meal and rest periods in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and company policy. LWG team members are entitled, encouraged, and expected to take all meal and rest periods provided to them.
General Expectations
-
Meal and rest periods are provided based on position, work hours, and applicable law.
-
Rest periods may not be used to offset arrival or departure times and should not be taken at the beginning or end of the workday.
-
To the extent permitted by applicable law, rest periods may be combined with a meal period at the supervisor’s discretion, not to exceed a total of 60 minutes.
Meal Periods
-
Employees must be completely relieved of all work duties during unpaid meal periods.
-
If a nonexempt employee performs any work during a meal period, the time worked must be paid and will be counted toward total hours worked.
-
Employees should accurately record all time worked, including any work performed during a meal period.
Rest Periods
-
Rest periods are provided where required by state law and are intended to allow employees time to rest and recharge.
-
Where rest periods are provided, employees should take them as scheduled and return to work on time.
-
Rest periods may not be waived or skipped to shorten the workday, except as permitted by applicable law.
No Interference or Retaliation
-
No employee, supervisor, or manager may impede, discourage, or deny another employee from taking meal or rest periods provided under this policy or by law.
-
Retaliation for requesting or taking legally provided meal or rest periods is strictly prohibited.
If a Meal or Rest Period Is Missed
-
Employees who believe they were not provided the opportunity to take the required meal or rest periods should:
-
Notify their supervisor or manager as soon as possible, and
-
Contact Human Resources if the issue is not promptly corrected.
-
LWG will review concerns and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable law.
Timekeeping & Meal and Rest Period Tracking
All meal and rest periods, whether paid or unpaid, must be accurately recorded in Dayforce.
-
Employees are required to clock in and out for all start and stop times, including:
-
The beginning and end of each work shift
-
The start and end of all meal periods
-
The start and end of all rest periods, where applicable
-
-
Accurate timekeeping is critical to ensure proper pay, legal compliance, and correct recordkeeping.
-
Failing to record meal or rest periods correctly may result in payroll inaccuracies and compliance issues.
Employees should never work off the clock. Any time worked, including work performed during a meal or rest period, must be recorded and will be paid in accordance with applicable law.
If an employee experiences difficulty recording time or believes a time entry is incorrect, they should notify their supervisor promptly so corrections can be made.
Important Legal Notes
-
Meal and rest period requirements vary by state, and this policy is designed to comply with the most restrictive applicable laws where required.
-
Nothing in this article is intended to reduce or limit rights provided under state or local law.
-
LWG will comply with all legally mandated meal and rest period requirements in each jurisdiction where it operates.
